On July 4, Trump stated that the U.S. could begin sending letters to trade partners as early as Friday (local time on the 4th), unilaterally setting tariff rates, with July 9 being the deadline for negotiations. Trump said on Thursday local time: "We may start sending some letters, probably from tomorrow, maybe sending 10 letters a day to different countries, informing them of the tariffs they need to pay to trade with the U.S." Trump mentioned on Tuesday that he does not consider delaying next week's deadline. When asked if negotiations could be extended, U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin stated earlier on Thursday that Trump would make the final decision. (Jin10 )
