Besenet stated that trade negotiations may conclude before September, implying a possible extension of the negotiation deadline.

On June 27, U.S. Treasury Secretary Becerra stated that the Trump administration's trade agreement agenda could conclude before Labor Day (September 1), indicating that some negotiations may extend beyond the July 9 deadline. Becerra said on a television program on Friday, "Some countries are coming to us with very good agreements," emphasizing the comments made the day before by Commerce Secretary Ross that the White House is planning to reach agreements with 10 major trading partners. Becerra reiterated that there are 18 important trading partners, "If we can reach agreements with 10 or 12 of these 18 important partners (in addition to another 20 important partners), then I believe we can complete the trade negotiations before Labor Day." He did not specify which countries he hopes to reach agreements with. ( Jin10 )
