Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary forecasts a trillion-dollar Wall Street influx originally appeared on TheStreet.
Kevin O'Leary, well-known for his appearance as a judge on the popular TV reality show "Shark Tank," frequently shares his fiery takes on the markets. Now, he expects further crypto regulation to make way for an inflow of a trillion dollars into the market.
Once the Congress passes the GENIUS Act to regulate stablecoins and the crypto market structure bill to distinguish securities from commodities, then he believes:
O'Leary made the observation while speaking to Moneywise in May. The serial investor, who is also known as "Mr. Wonderful," added that though there has been some progress on crypto regulation, more needs to be done on this front because most institutional investors, like sovereign wealth and pension funds, aren't yet convinced to keep their stakes in crypto.
O’Leary said during his keynote at the Consensus crypto conference in Toronto:
This is why "Mr. Wonderful" recommended the governments pursue a comprehensive crypto regulation framework so that traditional institutions pour funds into the market and retail customers can then engage with virtual assets:
O'Leary, who earlier called Bitcoin “garbage,” told Moneywise that crypto assets now constitute 19.4% of his portfolio. He also holds stakes in “picks and shovels” — that is, platforms that deal in crypto. He has also disclosed owning not only the USDC stablecoin but also being a shareholder in the company behind it, Circle.
With clearer regulation, O'Leary expects other Wall Street giants to also funnel more funds into the crypto sector.
