Russian troops launch a night raid on Ukraine! Trump threatens to impose 'sanctions + tariffs' on Russia until a ceasefire and reconciliation are reached

Russia launched a new round of large-scale drone and missile attacks on Ukraine last night (7), causing damage to some of Ukraine's infrastructure and residential areas and injuring multiple people, making the Russia-Ukraine situation tense again. In this context, Trump also posted on his social platform Truth Social last night, stating that he is considering imposing large-scale sanctions on Russia to promote reconciliation between Russia and Ukraine. (Background: Will the Russia-Ukraine war end this year? Zelensky: Trump's tough stance will prevent Putin) (Background: Zelensky: Willing to follow Trump's strong leadership, Ukraine can "sign the mining protocol" and return to the negotiation table at any time) President Trump has communicated multiple times recently with leaders of Russia and Ukraine, giving hope that the war that started in February 2022 could end this year. However, last night (7), several foreign media outlets reported that Russia once again launched a new round of large-scale drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, damaging some of Ukraine's infrastructure and residential areas and causing multiple injuries, once again escalating the Russia-Ukraine situation. Trump threatens to sanction Russia In this context, Trump also posted last night on his social platform Truth Social, stating his strong consideration of imposing large-scale sanctions on Russia, including banking sanctions and tariffs, until a ceasefire and final reconciliation protocol is reached. For Russia and Ukraine, it's time to join the negotiations while there's still a chance. Thank you! It is worth noting that at the time Trump was threatening Russia with sanctions, he had recently pledged to work closely with Russian President Putin over the phone and is expected to hold a summit soon to restart discussions on their relationship and economic cooperation. Zelensky: Ready to achieve peace under Trump's leadership Another point worth mentioning is that last week Ukrainian President Zelensky visited the White House, met with President Trump, Vice President Pence, and discussed the mining protocol, hoping to secure U.S. security guarantees to stop the war. However, after brief speeches by Trump and Zelensky, the atmosphere of their conversation became increasingly tense, ending with loud mutual accusations and no agreement. However, amidst global concerns about the situation worsening, on March 5, the situation took a 180-degree turn when Zelensky expressed willingness to quickly return to the negotiation table and be ready to achieve peace under Trump's leadership. Zelensky stated: "I want to reiterate Ukraine's commitment to peace. None of us want an endless war. Ukraine is willing to sit down at the negotiation table as soon as possible to make efforts for lasting peace. No one desires peace more than the Ukrainian people. My team and I are ready to take swift action to end the war, with the first phase possibly involving prisoner releases and achieving an aerial ceasefire - banning missiles, long-range drones, energy, and other civilian infrastructure bombings - and immediately implementing a naval ceasefire if Russia does the same. Then, we hope to swiftly progress through all subsequent stages and work with the U.S. to reach a strong final protocol. We greatly appreciate the U.S.' efforts to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. We still remember the moment when President Trump provided javelin missiles to Ukraine, and we are deeply grateful for that. The meeting held at the White House in Washington on Friday did not go as expected. It is regrettable. Now is the time to correct the mistakes. We hope that future cooperation and communication will be constructive. Regarding the mining and security protocol, Ukraine is willing to sign at any time in any convenient form. We believe this protocol is a step towards higher security and more stable security assurances, and I sincerely hope it will be effective.
