In his statement, US President Donald Trump announced that he would suspend most of the customs duties on exports from Mexico until April 2, indicating another change in trade policy that leaves businesses and consumers in uncertainty.

Trump's decision shared on the Truth Social account follows a series of tariff reversals that have been imposed, suspended, reinstated, and now postponed once again.

Recurring changes in trade policy continue to cause fluctuations in the markets, while consumer confidence continues to weaken. This uncertainty has put pressure on businesses relying on stable trade agreements with Mexico under the (USMCA), which is the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Trump cited his meetings with Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum as the reason for the temporary halt.

He wrote, "After my meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, we agreed that Mexico will not have to pay any customs duties for anything covered by the USMCA Agreement. This Agreement is valid until April 2. I did this as a compromise and out of respect for President Sheinbaum."
