Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy shared new details about the LIBRA scandal, revealing that he received 6 million tokens from the project but returned them due to conditions.
Dave Portnoy announced that he returned the 6 million tokens given to him to promote the project in relation to the LIBRA token scandal. Portnoy stated that project manager Hayden Davis asked him to keep this payment a secret, but he returned the tokens as he found it unethical.
However, Portnoy stated that he held the tokens he purchased and closely monitored the price decline.
Milei's role and new allegations in token scandal
According to Portnoy's statements, Argentine President Javier Milei played an important role in supporting the LIBRA token project at the beginning. Milei promoted the project on social media by stating that it would provide financial support to small businesses in Argentina. However, he later withdrew his support and claimed that he had no connection to the project.
Portnoy suggested that Davis thought Milei was directly connected but claimed that the sudden withdrawal of support from the Argentine leader put Davis in a difficult position. Portnoy stated that he believed Davis did not intentionally defraud investors but expressed uncertainty due to the complexity of the situation.
While the market value of the LIBRA token has dropped from 4.5 billion dollars to 350 million dollars, the future of the project remains uncertain. Opposition parties in Argentina continue to advocate for the start of the official process for Milei's impeachment, raising questions about whether Davis's plans will be sufficient to recover the token's value.
