Shake Up Scam: Imposter of Bermuda Prime Minister Promotes Fake Token on Solana
A scammer has impersonated David Burt, the Premier of Bermuda, on the social media platform X (Twitter) to promote a fraudulent token called 'Bermuda National Coin'. Fake Profile, Gray Trace and Deception Tricks This fake account has a gray checkmark, typically reserved for government officials, but only has 45 posts, with the earliest post dating back to 2/2/2025. Meanwhile, Burt's real account has a blue checkmark, over 6,200 posts, 12,200 followers, and has been active since July 2014. On February 14, Burt discovered a scam, warned users, and requested the platform to address it. He also tagged Elon Musk, calling for enhanced controls to prevent fraud. “I don't know how they got the gray checkmark, but people will be deceived if this app doesn't have better control measures. Fix it now!” - Burt wrote on X. However, the fake account has not been removed, in the context of the increasing scams related to memecoins and celebrities.
Argentine President Once 'Entangled' in Similar Controversy Previously, Argentine President Javier Milei also sparked controversy when promoting the LIBRA token - a project under Viva La Libertad, aimed at supporting local startups and businesses. However, shortly after its launch, LIBRA plummeted more than 95%, accused of a $107 million fraud involving insider trading. Milei quickly deleted the post and declared no affiliation with the project. "I do not understand the details of the project, and after knowing, I decided not to continue promoting it - that's why I deleted the post," - Milei wrote on X on 14/2. Scams exploiting the reputation of politicians and celebrities are increasing, especially with the explosion of memecoins. Users should carefully check the information before investing in any project.
