In an interview with Koin Newsletter, Sebastien Borget emphasized that the metaverse is still a strong market, that Turkey has a strategic position in the Web3 ecosystem, and that The Sandbox continues to grow.
Koin Bülteni CEO Fatih Taşdemir conducted an exclusive interview with Sebastien Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox, about the future of metaverse, NFTs, and the Web3 ecosystem. Borget discussed The Sandbox's activities in Turkey, the current state of the metaverse, and their plans for the future.
"The Sandbox Reaches 6.3 Million Users"
Sebastien Borget stated that the metaverse still has a thriving ecosystem and the interest has not decreased. As of 2024, they have reached 6.3 million users, with an increase of 1 million wallet holders last year, and stated that they have collaborated with 400 major brands.
Borget emphasized that especially 580,000 unique players experienced the Alpha Season 4 event, and they plan to release four seasons every year and provide more tools to game developers as of this year. He expressed that the Metaverse is not dead, but rather continues to attract more people and brands' interest.
"Turkey Occupies a Strategic Position in the Web3 Economy"
Sebastien Borget, responding to Fatih Taşdemir's question about Turkey, expressed that Turkey has an important place in game development and digital creative economy. He mentioned that they had previously organized hackathons and game development competitions in Turkey and carried out various projects to onboard local developers to the Web3 ecosystem.
In addition, they said that as a result of their collaboration with popular brands like Muhteşem Yüzyıl, NFT collections quickly sold out and received great interest. They also added that they will establish new partnerships to attract talented content creators and game developers in Turkey to the Web3 world.
"The Metaverse Is Still Evolving, We've Moved Into A New Phase"
Stating that he does not agree with the views that interest in the metaverse and NFTs is declining, Sebastien Borget said that this is part of the natural evolution process of new technologies. "The metaverse revolution does not happen overnight, it usually matures in long-term processes such as 10 years", underlining that the industry is still in the growth phase.
He pointed out that AI (artificial intelligence) technologies have become popular lately, but over time, these technologies, such as the metaverse, will also become focused on improving user experience. He emphasized that The Sandbox will continue to enhance the real use cases of the metaverse by developing tools for game developers and content creators.
Borget noted that The Sandbox is not just a gaming platform, but also offers a wide ecosystem where users can create their own content and earn profits. He expressed that Metaverse still has great potential and that The Sandbox will continue to lead in this area.
