The government efficiency department led by Musk is considering using blockchain technology.
According to Bloomberg, Elon Musk has initiated a dialogue on the use of blockchain technology in the newly established Department of Government Efficiency. This is the latest sign of the Trump administration's efforts to support the digital asset industry.
Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) consider using blockchain technology
Bloomberg cited sources as saying that Musk, the person in charge of DOGE, has been considering establishing close ties with allies on the use of digital ledgers as a way to reduce government costs. DOGE officials have met with representatives of various public blockchains to evaluate their technology. Discussions covered the use of blockchain technology to track federal spending, protect data, make payments, and even establish management.
DOGE was created in accordance with Trump's executive order on January 20th, responsible for modernizing federal technology and software, and committed to improving government efficiency and productivity. Trump said the team will work with the White House Management and Budget Office to identify spending reduction plans and complete recommendations by July 4, 2026.
A knowledgeable source said that before Trump took office, Musk recruited about 100 volunteers to write code for his project. Blockchain will be one of the several technical tools that Musk and his team may try to reduce costs, eliminate wasteful spending, fraud, and abuse. This is a key issue raised by Trump in the 2024 election. Trump condemned the country's growing deficit and attributed it to many factors.
