Donald Trump appointed Mark Uyeda as the interim leader of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the early days of his presidency.

Uyeda is known as one of the names who strongly criticized the crypto policies during the tenure of former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler. This appointment indicates that there may be significant changes in SEC's approach to crypto assets.

Uyeda had called Gensler's practices a 'poorly planned crypto policy' and called for more clarity. In a speech they gave in March, Uyeda and SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce stated, 'The crypto asset market environment we have created, particularly for secondary transactions, is unsustainable.'

With Trump's appointment, it may be on the agenda for the SEC to create a clearer framework for crypto asset regulations and to reconsider pending enforcement actions. According to Reuters, Uyeda and Peirce are considering taking action to make crypto policies more transparent.

Mark Uyeda is known to have worked closely with figures known for their crypto-friendly attitudes in the past. Uyeda had consulted with former SEC Commissioners Michael Piwowar and Paul Atkins. Atkins is expected to be appointed as the leader of the SEC to serve until 2026, but this appointment requires Senate approval.
