Microsoft's proposal to invest in BTC has been aborted! Details revealed: the support rate was less than 1%

At the Microsoft shareholders' meeting on December 10th, a proposal to 'invest in BTC' was voted down by shareholders, and now more details have emerged. According to the latest documents submitted by Microsoft to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), only 0.55% of shareholders voted in favor of the proposal, almost certainly declaring its failure.

The proposal, put forward by the National Center for Public Policy in the United States, suggests that Microsoft allocate 1% of its total assets to Bitcoin as a potential hedge against inflation. However, the Microsoft board has clearly expressed opposition to this, citing concerns that the price volatility of Bitcoin is too high and goes against the company's pursuit of a conservative investment strategy.

Despite the fact that prominent BTC bull and MicroStrategy founder Michael Saylor tried to persuade Microsoft to change its stance by using the example of his company's "huge returns from investing in BTC", he ultimately failed to convince the board.

The Microsoft board of directors mentioned that the company has had a capital outflow of $200 billion in past dividends and stock buybacks, and does not consider BTC suitable for further diversifying investment risks.

In addition to the BTC proposal, the shareholders' meeting also voted on multiple proposals, including requesting Microsoft to release a report on the risks of artificial intelligence (AI) and fake information, and reviewing the potential risks of the company's involvement in military technology research and development proposals. However, these issues were also rejected due to insufficient support.

Before the voting results were announced, the market was already pessimistic about the possibility of Microsoft accepting BTC as corporate assets. The decentralized prediction platform Polymarket shows that bettors believe the probability of the proposal passing is only 12% to 16%, indicating almost no expectations from the market.

The proposal for 'Microsoft investing in BTC' has failed! Details revealed: the support rate is less than 1%. This article was first published in 'Block Times'.
