Ethereum Consensys research director leaves Solana: Criticizes excessive reliance on L2 solutions, facing criticism from internal and external sources
Max Resnick, the former Consensys research director of Ether software development, announced on Twitter on 12/10 that he has joined the Solana team. He sharply criticized the internal culture and decision-making process of Ether, believing that Solana's flexibility and high performance provide more development potential, while the internal rigidity of Ether may hinder future development.
More potential lies in Solana, Ethereum scalability issues become a catalyst
After joining the Anza team at Solana, Resnick expressed frustration with the inefficiency of internal decision-making and scalability strategy within Ethereum, although Ethereum remains an important player in Decentralized Finance. Resnick criticized Ethereum for relying too much on L2 scaling solutions and argued that the focus should be on L1 scalability, similar to Solana's approach. He also bluntly stated that Ethereum lacks the ability to respond quickly to market competition, which was one of the reasons for his departure.
"Although Ether's network is currently in a leading position and has been relatively 'peaceful', facing few real threats. However, with the continuous progress and development of technologies like Solana, Ether's network now has to face these challenges. But the problem is that the existing decision-making process of Ether makes change quite difficult." Resnick said in an interview. He pointed out that many important discussions only exist in conversations among core members, which is a big problem for the transparency and efficiency of the Ether network.
Resnick announced on Twitter that he will be moving to Anza, a subsidiary team of Solana Labs. Focusing on optimizing costs and consensus mechanisms, Anza supports and criticizes within the Ethereum community.
Resnick said he will join the Anza team in the future and focus on optimizing Solana's fee settings and Consensus Mechanism. He believes these are the core keys to driving Solana's continuous growth.
Resnick's public criticism has also sparked internal reflection within the Ethereum community. Some members support his public discussion of the current state of Ethereum, believing that this will help improve Ethereum. Dankard Feist, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, praised Resnick's candor on Twitter, saying 'Only public criticism can make Ethereum a better product.'
However, some Ethereum supporters believe that Solana's rapid development model may have long-term health concerns. Ethereum researcher Justin Drake said in an interview with foreign media: 'Solana's lack of emphasis on network health could become a hidden danger for Solana's future development.'

The client is the software required to run the Node in the blockchain network, responsible for processing transactions, verifying Blocks, and maintaining the normal operation of the network.)
Insiders have also begun to question the white-hot competition between Solana and Ethereum.
Resnick said that many core developers of Ethereum are dissatisfied with the current situation and are even considering whether to continue staying in this Ethereum. "If there is no change, I don't know how long I will stay here," he said.
Because the discussion between Ethereum and Solana has always been high, many users continue to compare which of the two is better. When I was speaking at the Ethereum DEVCON conference in Bangkok, an audience member asked the core members of Ethereum about this sensitive topic. And the core members also admitted: "Solana is indeed a good competitor." It remains to be seen how the competition between the two will develop in the future.
The first question on the screen in the footage I captured at Ethereum Bangkok DEVCON happened to be about 'competition'.
