Nakamoto is referring to what would eventually become Bitcoin as a version of e-Cash, a technology offered by David Chaum's DigiCash company as far back as 1998. In another email, Back suggests Nakamoto read a proposal by Wei Dai called B-Money. Nakamoto tells Back that he hasn't read the B-Money web page. However, he states that he will cite the author in his article. By the way, B-Money was referenced in the last Bitcoin whitepaper.

This development is remarkable. Because Wright previously claimed that he was inspired by B-Money when creating Bitcoin. However, the email shows that Nakamoto was unaware of this until a few weeks before he launched Bitcoin. In his written witness statement, Back said the argument between him and Nakamoto was minimal. He also stated that he did not become interested in Bitcoin as a participant until years later.
