Crypto wallet creator, victim of phishing attack
While copy sites, trap links, fake ads are the most well-known face of phishing attacks, one of the well-known names in the crypto world lost a significant amount of funds as a result of this kind of scam.
When you want to get an airdrop...
Bill Lou, both the co-founder and CEO of Nest, a wallet known for its security focus and decentralization, lost $125,000. Lou entered a site that looked almost identical to the original with the intention of receiving an airdrop, but he lost 52 stETH.
As it is known, the LFG coin, which was announced as an incentive for those who pay high gas fees on the Ethereum network to switch to the Solana network, was announced yesterday with the motto "less fee and gas", that is, "Cheaper gas and transaction fees". The airdrop covers people who have spent more than $4269 on Ethereum in transaction fees since 2016.
"If I used my own product, this wouldn't happen"
While Bill Lou wanted to take advantage of this airdrop, he went to a fake website that was created in a short time and connected his wallet. Lou, who eventually lost his $125,000 in stETH, said from account X, "I was scammed while trying to participate in the LFG airdrop."
Lou also said that he went to the site through a Google search, stating:
"I typed it into Google and it came out. I didn't even question that the link was the right one... I used Metamask. Nest had a trial version. This wouldn't have happened if I had used my own product."
