Giant Gaming Firm Hacked: Attackers Want Cryptocurrency!
Razer, one of the largest hardware game companies in the world, suffered a data attack. In this development, which emerged on Saturday, it was stated that the attackers stole a very serious amount of data, and the sale of the relevant data has already started in various forums. In some advertisements shared on Saturday, it was emphasized that the data in question could be sold for $100,000.
Razer Hacked: Ransom Becomes Cryptocurrency
Razer, on the other hand, stated in a statement on the subject that they were aware of the potential data leak and were working on it. According to the information reported by The Straits Times, some source codes and even backend access data were leaked. It can be said that this poses a great risk for Razer's website and products.
It is stated that among the leaked information are the files of the Razer digital wallet, which Razer released in March 2017 and offers access to the Razer Gold service. These contain very critical data such as encryption keys of Razer's reward system. It is stated that the sample data displayed by The Straits Times includes information up to the virtual credit card numbers of customers with Razer Gold accounts. Although the attacker who made the sale stated that he had 404,000 account information, this could not be confirmed yet.
Hacker Wants XMR
In one of the hacker forums, it seems that the seller emphasized that he will sell this data to a single buyer. The price was chosen as $100,000 worth of cryptocurrencies and specifically Monero (XMR). Monero stands out for the privacy it offers, and the attacker may prefer it for complete privacy. Although the attacker set the price as $100,000, he added the detail that he could negotiate for lower prices.
In fact, the attacker's request for XMR shows why the recent pressure on privacy-focused cryptocurrencies was a logical decision. Although cryptocurrencies have many different uses, cryptocurrencies that offer complete privacy, such as XMR, cause the industry to be referred to only with crimes and similar actions. Regulators also took action on this issue and declared war on privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies.
