Tajikistan reported losses of over 3.52 million USD due to illegal Bitcoin mining in the first half of 2025. Attorney General Khabibullo Vokhidzoda stated that the main cause was the illegal use of electricity, which forced the state to compensate energy companies. Since January, over 190 cases related to illegal electricity usage have been opened, with more than 3,988 people arrested, totaling losses of up to 4.26 million USD. In the Sughd region alone, prosecutors have seized 135 mining devices and initiated seven cases, causing losses of over 30,000 USD.

Not only Tajikistan, but Kazakhstan is also tightening the operations of illegal cryptocurrency mining. Authorities discovered that employees of the electricity company illegally supplied more than 50 MWh of electricity to mining farms, equivalent to the consumption of a city with 70,000 residents, causing a loss of approximately 16.5 million USD. The new regulations only allow each farm to purchase a maximum of 1 MWh from the Ministry of Energy.
