World pauses operations in Germany while updating the iris scanner.

World, the cryptocurrency project co-founded by Sam Altman of OpenAI, has temporarily suspended iris scanning operations in Germany. The company's website announced that World Orb stations will return soon. Orbs are silver-colored spheres, the size of basketballs, used to verify user identification and participate in the company's identification network. The project, previously called Worldcoin, is updating the stations and plans to open a flagship store in Munich. Users can receive WLD tokens when scanning their irises or referring others. The operators of the Orb stations are third-party companies but are not claimed to work for World. Some organizing groups have paid refugees to have their eyes scanned in Berlin, potentially earning nearly $700,000 worth of tokens at peak times.
