Due to the President Trump's executive order, there is an increasing interest in nuclear-related stocks.

President Trump has pledged to promote the revival of the U.S. nuclear industry and signed four presidential decrees in late May 2025. The contents included addressing various issues that have hindered the growth of the nuclear industry for many years, such as streamlining the certification process for reactors and exploring the possibility of nuclear fuel recycling.

As interest in the nuclear power industry grows in Washington, some investors are looking for profitable stocks, believing in the industry's revival. For them, NuScale Power [SMR], Constellation Energy [CEG], and Cameco [CCJ] seem to be smart choices to strengthen their portfolios.

The small modular reactor of NuScale Power has many advantages

The era of large-scale nuclear power plants requiring huge capital investment and long construction periods is over. Now, companies like NuScale Power [SMR] are developing small modular reactors, offering various advantages over traditional nuclear power plants.

First, small modular reactors require significantly less space for installation, making them more attractive to project developers, and allowing the size of the reactor to be adjusted to the needs of individual sites. In addition, unlike traditional nuclear power plants, they can automatically shut down and self-cool indefinitely, improving safety. Furthermore, NuScale Power's small modular reactors are manufactured in factories, leading to cost reductions and accelerated project progress.

Newscale Power, which holds $491 million in cash and no interest-bearing debt, has an attractive financial base for investors seeking low-risk, high-growth stocks. The company stated that it is the only small modular reactor manufacturer with design approval from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and is poised for future deployment, demonstrating a competitive advantage over its peers.

Will Constellation Energy become the leading stock in the electricity sector?

Constellation Energy Group's business portfolio includes assets such as approximately 10 gigawatts (GW) of natural gas, oil, hydro, wind, solar power, etc., with nuclear power accounting for the majority of the generating capacity. The capacity of nuclear power generation is about 21 gigawatts, which can meet the electricity needs of approximately 16 million households.

Microsoft [MSFT] is focusing on Constellation Energy's nuclear power generation assets, and in 2024, the two companies entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). Under this agreement, the high-tech company Microsoft will procure the power needed to support data centers through the reoperation of the Three Mile Island power plant (now the Crane Clean Energy Center).

Recently, Meta Platforms [META] has shown a strong interest in nuclear energy as a power source for expanding AI-related operations. In early June 2025, Meta and Constellation Energy signed a 20-year PPA for the electricity generated at the Clinton Clean Energy Center, a nuclear power plant in Illinois.

The contract signed by Constellation Energy with Microsoft and Meta is just one example of the massive investment that AI companies are making to support data centers. It would not be surprising if other AI giants who recognize the appeal of nuclear power as a way to meet the enormous power demand for AI computing also announce similar contracts with Constellation Energy.

Cameco Producing Uranium

While there is great interest in the construction of new nuclear power plants, it is meaningless without uranium to operate. This is where Cameco comes in. The company is the largest uranium production company in terms of market capitalization among companies listed on the US stock market.

Cameco, which operates throughout the nuclear fuel value chain, is involved in uranium exploration as well as refining and fuel manufacturing.

The presidential order signed by President Trump specifically states, "The policy of the United States is to promote the production and use of nuclear energy as rapidly as possible." This policy may expand the path for Cameco's uranium asset development and potentially reduce other potential regulatory barriers, positioning it to benefit.

In 2024, Cameco reported producing 23.4 million pounds of uranium. Furthermore, the company also holds abundant resources to secure future production, reporting a confirmed and estimated uranium reserves of 457 million pounds as of the end of 2024.

It is also worth noting that Cameco may benefit from the growth of Kyros Power (unlisted) and Terrapower (unlisted), small modular reactor manufacturers that use high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) as fuel. Cameco also owns 49% of Global Laser Enrichment, a specialist company with HALEU production capacity and uranium enrichment technology.
