According to three people familiar with the matter, minutes after the president's post, David Sacks, the "crypto czar" of the White House, was furious and called Wells to complain. The White House will host a cryptocurrency summit in Washington next week, and it looks bad that the president has praised certain companies by name while ignoring others. Soon, White House officials realized that XRP, one of the tokens in the "Truth Social" post, was a customer of Ballard. Trump later posted a second post on Truth Social, along with the names of other cryptocurrency companies. But by then it was too late. Ballard has been excluded from the White House, at least temporarily, after posts about cryptocurrencies came to light, as White House staff were instructed not to meet with him, according to three people familiar with the matter. But five people close to Mr. Trump said the dissatisfaction with Ballard was much more than that. Some White House officials believe Ballard is exploiting Mr. Trump's fame by boasting that his relationship with the president and Wells is far less intimate than advertised. The White House declined to comment. There is evidence that he was not completely cut off from the outside world. Politico reviewed Ballard's invitations to Trump fundraisers, as well as transcripts of his calls with senior Trump administration officials since the events in March. Ballard's clients have also met with senior government officials, including the president's meeting with NFL executives represented by Ballard earlier this week. A colleague of Ballard's said they never tried to mislead the president about a post about the crypto strategic reserve.
