According to Techub News, citing insiders reported by Blockworks, the chain game "Shrapnel" developer Neon Machine has fallen into financial crisis, losing money every year since 2021, with total operating expenses reaching 86.9 million USD. Among them, Neon Machine's net loss for 2024 is estimated to be 11.4 million USD (service revenue is about 21.7 million USD, but operating expenses are approximately 33 million USD). In addition, a financial document from Neon Machine predicts that starting in March 2025, its cash reserves will be in deficit, and assuming no additional cash revenue, the deficit will exceed 13.5 million USD by the end of this year's fourth quarter. Several insiders familiar with Shrapnel's financial situation have indicated that Neon Machine has a large amount of unpaid debt, owing millions of USD to external vendors. Furthermore, Shrapnel has undergone at least three rounds of layoffs, with the most recent round occurring in early March of this year.

Neon Machine completed a $20 million financing round in October 2023, led by Polychain Capital.
