EU Commissioner Breton resigns, accusing von der Leyen of 'governance issues'

On September 17th, Jinshi Data reported that Thierry Breton, the Commissioner responsible for the internal market of the European Commission and a Frenchman, announced his resignation on the 16th and accused European Commission President von der Leyen of "governance problems". Breton posted a letter to von der Leyen on social media that day, stating that von der Leyen, in the final negotiation phase of the newly formed European Commission, exerted pressure on France for "personal reasons" and asked France to withdraw Breton's candidacy. As a political exchange, von der Leyen promised France a more influential position in the committee.
