Gate Charity, the charity arm under Gate Group, donated a bespoke Electric Wheelchair tailored for Uti, an unfortunate girl with physical disability at SLB Sri Soedewi. This charitable act aimed not merely to facilitate her daily activities but to bolster Uti’s confidence, uplift her self-worth, and stimulate personal advancement. In addition to Uti’s wheelchair, Gate Charity generously provided Blind Sticks, books, bags, and other invaluable items, benefiting a broader student body.
In a heartwarming initiative last month, Gate Charity teamed up with SLB Negeri Prof. Dr. Sri Soedewi Masjchun Sofwan, SH, unveiling the struggles and resilience of Uti, a 19-year-old living with Down Syndrome and physical disability. With her father having departed early in her life due to her condition, Uti’s devoted mother took on the role of sole provider and carer. Their limited means prevented them from owning a wheelchair, resulting in Uti’s mother often physically carrying her daughter and relying on a motorbike for school commutes. At school, Uti made do with a borrowed wheelchair, ill-suited for her size, due to the school’s constrained resources.
This gesture is a testament to GateCharity’s enduring commitment and profound empathy towards the differently-abled, continually striving to enrich their lives and foster a spirit of community involvement.
SLB Sri Soedewi, having served the differently-abled community since 1982, offers comprehensive programs catering to varied needs, from vision and hearing impairments to autism. Split into three academic tiers, the institution prides itself on its mission: enhancing each student’s academic strengths, nurturing individual talents, and equipping them with vital life skills. Their multifaceted approach includes specialized education, dedicated classroom settings, and a plethora of skill classes, spanning disciplines like tailoring, music, automotive training, and plant cultivation.
